But, this time he was not alone. He brought with him sevral stron rugged men who apeared just as at ease in the wild as he. With many jestures and laughter and shouting the men began to clear a roughly square aria within which they drove stakes of wood in more precise squares and rectangles, and one octagonal space roughly in the centre of the original square.
It seemed almost overnight that the smaller squares and rectangles became small cabins with steeply sloping rooves. This was all of great interest to the rock, who watched the proceedings from his vantage point under the willow.
But, what was the most interesting was what was happening with the octagonal shape in the center of the fledgling settlement. The men built it in much the same fashion as the huts, criss-crossing logs and fastening them at the ends. Only with this structure they used only the largest of the trees, and they didnt stop when they had reaced the hicht of a man, as they had when they built the huts, but they continued building untill the walls were twice as tall as the men. Then, when thy had reached twice the hight of the tallest of them, they began to dig a narrow but deep trench around the base of the sturdy structure. Then they drove tall straight logs into the ditch sharpening the upward pointing ends.

Well, thats all I have time to type atm, so stay tuned

To blog, or not to blog... that is not the question, the question rather is, to blog or to sleep... I am sorry that I havent been blogging in about forever, but I have been really really bussy with my job, some days getting out as late as 8:30 at night, and when u start at 8:30 in the morning blogging isnt exactly the first thing on ur mind... that and the Library is closed anyhow. although, i must confess... I have had time to go the the everyother week lan party at the local game room. Which is fun, "Savage" is a really cool game. But these loosers are stuck in the 'we only play CS' crap... but the other day we did play "Vietcong" which was fun. Anyhow...
Work has been a trip, or perhaps a fall/slide is a better description of it. Lately I have been sledding off random buildings in Homer and surrounding countryside. Well, I did have a safty rope and harness on, but that doesnt really do much to make me feel safe when I'm 40ish feet off the ground walking on an inch of ice covered with 3-4 inches of snow. The temp around here goes from -11 to +25ish for the most part. But I cant really feel it when I get all bundled up, which is about 30 min of prep.

*News flash* I plan to come home somtime soon after Christmas. Plans afterthat are dependent on when I can get back into college.

I have written more on my story, but I dont have my notebook here, so I cant type it... Here is the next installment.

After a time, in the late afternoon, when even the buzzing flies had grown drowsy and the air was still. The forest had suddenly become very quiet, as if it were holding its breath. The rock, who had spent the day sleeping in the coll water to escape the flies was slowly rising to his feet when he froze. Across the river he saw a strange movement. He knew all the animals of the wood, and some of the people, so he knew that this was somthing new.
The figure stopped slowly out of the low bushes which grow only on the very borders of the woods. He was a tall straight backed man with keen eyes. He spent the night on the river bank under the brightly bruning stars. The rock quielty crept back under his willow and peered through the gently swaying branches at the stranger. He wathed with increasing intrest as the man gathered dry sticks and bark and build a small fire. When the stranger lay down and had been still for some time the rock slid quielty into the river and eased his way to the far bank. Careful not to make even the smallest nouse he crept to the edge of the circle of light cast by the diening embers. The sranger looked harmless enough, he only lay there and breathed slightly. Suddenly the man sat up and stared around him, the rock froze sitll and waited, ready to jum back into the river. The man looked around for what had awoken hi. Soft rustleling noises came from the nearby underbrush, but they stoped when he sat up. The man sank back down, but proped his head up so he could watch the ferns and bushes from which the sounds of movement had come. Presently a inquisitive nose, followed by a pair of masked, bright little eyes poked cautiously out from behind the large feathery fern leaf. The eyes were soon followed by a set of furry ears and a hunched body, and finaly a bushy black ringed tail.
"Why hello, friend racoon." said the man with a smile. The racoon stoped and sat back on its haunches and tilted its head as if trying to decipher what these strange sounds that he was hearing were. For, havingnever seen a human, much less heard one address him, he wasnt quite sure what to make of it. But, curiosity soon overcame surpirse and he pattered about the campsite in search of an evening snack. The man, however, was far too experienced a woodsman to leave any temping morsels out for passing scavengers, and the racoon soon left in disapointment. When the man had returned to his soft rhythmic breathing the rock quitely slopped back into the river and returned to his wollow.
The next morning the man awoke and surveyed his surroundings. The land sloped genlty upwards from the riverbank and was mostly clear for nearly a quarter of a mile, untill the ground began to riese more steeply toward the foothills of the distand mountains. With the execption of this small section of sparcly wooded medowland the whole aria was thickly forested with tall straight trees.
The man spent most of the day walkling to and fro in the medow and along the riverbank. Somtimes taking long overextended strides and then stoping and making marks on a small tablet. Other times he pulled out a string and put ti around an especialy large tree, then makeing more markes on his tablet. After a fre hours of this he took one last look around him and then swung his pack onto his back and headed back upriver, back the way he had come.

And thats all for now folks...

Please be kind, this is a first draft, lol...

As I dont have much time 2day, I will say that not much has happened, except that I have done some more writing on my story. So I will type what I have so far...
In the days when man had just begun to explore his world. When the woods and the many diverce people who lived in them ruled the world. In those days there was a small section of a small corner of the world where a broad river eased his peacful path. At a quite place where a smooth stately bend had created a penicula, very nearly an island, there grew a very large, very old willow. Her graceful arms spread wide over the soft mossy banks, her roots dug into the rich earth and drank deep draughts of the dimpled waters. Beneath her vaulted boughs in a green cavern walled by her leafy flowing hair and floored by the smooth banks of the river there lived a singular person.
This person was not at all like any man, nor was he like any animal. The best way to describe him would be to say that he looked like a great boulder. A great rock, such as you seen in a quiet forest, one which has lain such for many years. Moss and lichen grew in abundece on his skin. His skins was very rock like in both touch and apearence. His face, although impossible to see unless he wished it, was kind and gentle. A rather large nose, hardly distinguishable from a buldge on any large boulder all but covered his wide mouth. He lacked anything that could be called lips, what he had were more like ripples or folds in rock. But, what were the most strikeing of his features were his eyes. His eyes, which had seen the many long years slowly march by, the changing seasons, the death of great trees and the rise of seedling into great lords of the forest. He had paitently watched the mighty river as it had grown from a young, excitable ripids which lept playfuly around his toes and called him to leap in and dance with the flood, to the sleepy and powerful giant which glided soflty, dreamily. His eyes which were such a contrast to the rest of his rugged features were large and quiet, like great wells, soft and kind yet deep and strong. His eyes would serenely follow the passing days, then as the sun would ease his weary head down for the night, he would rouse himself and slip silently into the cool water. His arms unfolded to cup the clear water and let it run delicioulsly over his stony body. If he were to streatch to his full hight he would be far taller than a man. but, the way he walked was rather stooped, as if his ponderous weight was too much to carry. This however, was far from true, when need arose, he was very capable of moving quicky, and able to cover great distances with his lumbering stride. For the most part though, he was content to shuffle about at a leisurly pace. In the water though, this was quite a different matter. In the water he was very much unlike the stone whch he relembled. While under water he could glide about and swim as well as any fish. And, it was swimming whch brought about his first encounter with the world of men.
to be continued...

well.. what do u think? Maybe that is why they call it the Golden State... oh wait, isnt that Calli? oh crap! I'm at the wrong lattitude... so that's why its so cold and there are no palm trees, hmmm... I the reason I say it is golden is that there are no desidious trees up here but birch, well, very few at least. So, in the fall, when they start to turn there is gold everywhere. And most of the grasses turn bright yellow, so when the sun shines on the fields they glow golden.

Well, I guess there arnt 'NO' palm trees, as I have 2 in my house now. I now have one 8' palm tree and one 4' palm tree, and one other cool little tree that I cant remember what kind it is. Anyhow, as this is my day off, I plan to do a lot of things 2day, clean the house... fun fun, repot my newest tree, and go to the 2nd hand store where I there was, at least last time I was there, a vidio recorder... perhaps it works, and then I will make a vidio to send home. The mountians look really pretty now because of all the snow. Especialy when the sun shines on them. The last few days the surf has been pretty good... well, I say good, I mean 3 feet... which is better than 6 inches... but I dont have a wet suit, nor a surfboard, so I'm stuck on the beach watching the ice cold waves. Better than stuck in the ice cold waves watching the beach.

Well everybody I have news at last... well, not so exciting for you as for me... but, it snowed last night!! yikes!! snow in September. Its mostly breakfast and lunch. Its the place where all the old fisherman(and the young ones) come in to sit and drink coffee and tell crazy stories. I also got another job with a landscaping company. I work wed-sat at the resturant, and monday and tuesday if they need me at the landscaping place, its called Dutch Boy. Tuesday this week I laid 1500 sq feet or so of sod. Hard work, but I got 100 bucks for 7 hours of work. I hope to get hired full time at Dutch Boy in the spring. Not much else has happend really. Tiff found a TV for 30$ and we somtimes watch movies. Its 3$ for 2 movies so thats a pretty good deal. The Bible study that we were going to decided to not start a church, so now we are church hunting, which stinks because most of the churches in this town are really wacked out. We went to a Babtist church last sunday, It was interesting, but... it was well, Babtist. Anyhow... David, you would love the roads up here, they are all like the NFS "Alaska Highway" track. Exactly like it, its scary how close they are. It stinks that I have to drive a big lumbering jeep around, instead of a Golf. Oh well, some day...

Today I helped Tiffany move into her new appt. She woke me up at 6:30 in the stinkin moring... *sigh* Oh well, I've got all day 2 sleep, lol. I still need to go to the Ownersofgreenhouses Market... excuse me, Farmers market. Bla bla bla... not much to type 2day. Oh yeah, the other day Tiff and I were at a park driving around, we saw a mother moose and her little baby, I say little, he was about the size of a very large white tail. She was about the size of a horse. She wandered around us without any fear at all, we could have reached our hands out of the jeep and patted her on the back... but we thought that we liked to keep our hands, if u know what I mean. The baby was funny though, he was really skittish and kept jumping at every little sound. But I guess he has a right to... he is very small... er, well, compared to his mother he is at least. Where as he could have flattened me easily. My boss said that if I wanted I could move to day. So, I told her that I would like that, so she said that she would do it in a couple of weeks or so. So last saturday she told me that she had hired sombody for my night shift and that I would be training him for the next couple of weeks, and then she would move me into day. Yesterday when I went in to work she said that I had the next two weeks off and that I wasnt training this guy, and that she didnt have any open slots on day... so basicly I'm back on the job search. I have aps in at a couple of places. Also, I had a tip that Lands End, which is a 'nice' resturant has nobody to do a.m. hosting, and is also in need of wait staff and bussers. So I put an app in there yestday.
In other news, I plan to be moving into a house on or around the first. It will be werid to sleep in a bed after a month or so of sleeping outside. I think I like sleeping outside better. Tiff and I want to be snowbirds... go south, or southwest for the winter... aka Hawaii. That would be really cool... or hot as it would be, lol. But who can tell, we want to stay this winter in AK, just to say we have been here for the winter. But it is starting to get really cold.
Yesterday I tried to do some skiming with my boogie board... it sucked, I need a bigger board. I aslo tried to body board, lol that was some funny stuff... 6inch waves dont work so well. Oh well... stuff 2 do, and not much time 2 do it.
ps: I dispise people who own mean dogs... for they lack the courage to bite people themselves... rofl

This is David. I have to go into work right when the day is getting warm, so I cant go swimming :(. Yeah... waaa, ok, im done now.
But my boss said she would try to move me to day shift in the next couple of weeks. Which is a good thing, even though I am planning to quit and go to better job as soon as one come up, even if it is next spring when I have a job offer for outdoor stuff like mowing and the like, for 10$ph. Thats what I'm talking about. It's with a friend from church, which is even better.
Not much has happened 2day, mostly because most of it was taken up with being late to an employe (good sp skills there) meeting... which took longer than nessesary, and then going back to sleep, because the meeting was so stinkin early in the morning. But now we are on winter hours so I dont have to be there so late on saturday and friday nights, only 10:30 instead of 11:30, which helps with being able to wake up for church the next day, although it really doesnt matter as I keep waking up at 7 anyhow... but I go back to sleep, lol. The stars were really bright last night though, it was really cool. And mars is really really bright. do da... nothing to type. except that I am out of things to type...

Nothing much to report 2day, I put my app into Spenard Building Suply. Yesterday I was 3 hours late for work. They (they being the locals) say that the lights dont come out much in the summer, they start in the fall... so that means that we will get a long winter. Great says me. Yesterday was spent doing nothing, and then some more nothing, Tiff and I played scrabble, and cards. Then we decieded to go have a fire on the beach, it was annoying to get slightly wet driftwood to start, but when it started it was really nice and warm. Somebody had been camping down there and had made a half log cabin out of driftwood, so we sat behind that and made our fire, the wall blocked the wind and it got nice and toasty.
Today I did my laundry... fun, sitting in that hot laundrymat is what I call a great day. Anyhow, I'm looking for another job so, I'm gona go do that now...
O dave... could u put a counter on my coments for the 'many voices echo' so that I know how many coments there are. I got a good book yesterday from the library though, its about a ship captain in the west indies (sp...) at the time of the 'American' rebelion. Its writen from an english perspective. I am still looking for another job other than Arbys. They are really jerking around my schedule. Plus, they said when she hired me that I would get 35-40 hours, but this next week I only get 25. So, even if I do keep the job I will need another one. But I know of sevral places that are hireing. For the last week it has rained pretty much non stop. El SUCKO!!! I'm not wet though, just damp. I put a tarp up like a big tent over my camp sight. Its really loud though, lol, but it keeps me dry.
Anyhow... I'm sorry I havent blogged in a while, my job is now at night, as in 4 untill close... 10/11, somthing like that, its not that bad really, I just have other things to do in the day, like... dry my stuff out, lol. Arlo Guthry is coming to town for a concert, lol, I thought Adam might like that.
Right now it is very foggy, and rainy at the same time... kind of like those stories of the tall ships where u cant see anything beyond the bow. Kinda cool, but anoying to walk and drive in... espeacialy walk. I found a Subaru for 600, which is a good price, but its a subaru... up here, if there are 4 cars waiting at a light (rare in that... there is no 'light' in this town, other than a blinking red...) anyway, if there are 4 cars in line at a light, its most likely that 4 of them will be subarus... well, not quite that bad, but close 2 it. Subies are 4wd, so that is a plus, and they last for a looooong time. Or so they say.
In other news... Ive found an apartment, for a really good deal. A friend has a house that is 700ish per month, and we will split the cost 4 ways, so its all good, and much better than tiff's deal, lol. As in I get a really really nice view. he he.

ok, maybe it did publish... er... ok... maybe I'm the dumb one... But, I thought I would tell you that I have done nothing today except help Tiff get things around for her apartment, and I went to the bookstore to see some books that she said would be cool. One about plants and another about shells and other stuff we find in the tide pools. Anyhow... Yesterday we went down to look, but we were an hour or so late to the pools so they were mostly picked clean by the birds... grrr dumb gulls. but we did find a really cool snail shell, about the size of a baseball... well, the round part is, then the curls and the long 'snout' thing in the front, except that it was broken. I guess one of the birds had a slimy snack, ewww. 'Pirates' just came in here... how sad is that, its only about a month late... and the entire theater here could fit into the lobby, or one of the theaters at Showplace with pleanty of room to spare, and there are 2 'theaters' in the building... so sad so so very sad. Anyhow... Ive got stuff 2 look up, so I'll type at ya later...

Well... if you havent noticed I havent been able to blog lately. I've been dealing with my weird schedule for work. As I am only in training I dont really have that many hours yet, but they are putting me on the lunch rush, so I'm out of my mind making sandwich after sandwich... DARN THOSE STUPID MARKET FRESH!! lol. Tiff and I tried to go tide pooling last night but we switched the high and low tide around, so we were sitting there waithing for the tide to go out but we didnt realize that the tide was at flood and we had 6 hours b4 it went back down... but we had a nice walk down the beach and found some cool shells and little grasshopper shrimp thingies... they are funny, they look kinda like shrimp, but when you pick them up they jump like a grasshopper, and when you walk by they all jump around like crazy... then the birds come and eat them... mmmm shrimp platter, sorta. We found little crabs and watched the seagulls diving into the water to eat little fishes. They say that the eagles will take out seagulls somtimes, that sounds pretty funny to me. But, they only do it in the winter... I guess when the fish are all frozen, they are forced to eat junk food... ha ha ha

Today was an interesting day. In the moring I went to the 'Farmer's Market'... more like the 'Greenhouseowner's Market', well, not really that bad... some really good lettuce though. Only 1.50 per head, instead of $4... which is nice. After that I went and bugged Tiff at her store... although there was nobody there so it wasnt really bugging her, she was bored out of her mind. Then I went down to the beach and went tide pooling, as the tide was at its lowest for the day. I saw lots of little Hermet Crabs, and some little fishes, including a little tiny Halibut, only about an inch long, which is kinda funny because all the other halibut that are around here that we see at least are 100lbs and such. I also saw some really cool enenenimees...lol. There is a mime group that is going to be at the school 2day, so I'm going to go see them later. Basicly I'm lazin around 2day because I have nothing to do. Oh yeah, I also played my guitar for a bit on the beach, I have claimed this really cool rock that makes a good couch/bed/windbreak. I found some cool little shells, purple ones and stuff, kewl. Anyhoo... stuff 2 do... hasta la pasta...

Ladies and Gentlemen... and other...
Today I went on the most beautiful drive I have ever gone on. I drove the 70ish miles to the next town, which is bigger than this one... as in it has an oil change place... lol. The air was perfectly clear I could see for hundreds of miles when I topped ridges, the only thing that was impeading my veiw was the moutnain ranges that were blocking the other mountain ranges, that were blocking the other mountain ranges... you get the pic, sorta. I could see across the bay to the volcanos. Last night Tiff and I went up to the lookout over Homer. Across the bay we could see the sunset behind the volcainos... and man did I wish I had my tri-pod. It was too dark to take picutres, but sufice it to say that it reminded me of somthing from Tolkine. The mountain of fire... or somthing along those lines. Really really cool.
It seems kinda funny to drive 70 miles to get an oil change... but it was far worth the trip. Thanx 4 all the feedback Amanda. Shoplace just wont be the same w/out Jeff. I did get that job at Arbys... and they were talking about working me toward managment *bites nails*... you never can tell with cheese... lol
Oh, Dad, if u read this I'm gona be sending you some blueberrie syrup that you will just love. I dont have much news, as it isnt that late in the day, so I havent done much. Although I do have some really good news. I think I have a job... I went in for the interview and she said she needed to run it by her supervisor, but she said I have a 99.9% chance of getting hired. Oh yeah... the place (I can just hear you saying... "where is it that ur talking about...") It is the good old roast beef sandwich place... Arbys! oh boy... lol. Kevin will be proud of me I guess.
Well... whoever put up that last coment I coulndt read it because the coment server was down I guess. So, I'll try looking later. But you never can tell with bees... Speaking of bees. Tiff's shop... well not 'her' shop, but the shop at which she works... yeah... Anyway, she has this little table out on the porch for pple to sit at and do table type things... anyhow, the other day some pple came in after doing such table things and reported that they (well, i shoudnt say 'came' in, more like dove in.) like I was saying, they reported that they had been attacked by a bunch of rather annoyed bees (great spelling skills here!!) So yesterday I went out and checked it out... and yup there was a bees nest about the size of a softball. nice, so I guess I'm gona have to knock if off with somthing and run fast... lol. Anyhow, thats the breaking news from AK...
Hasta Man~a... u like that Dave? lol

Well... my 2nd full day in Alaska. The beging of the 'Great Job Search'. Fun fun fun. I have no idia how many apps I have filled out 2day. But, I know it is a lot. I have some very probable opertunities. (none that require spelling, ha ha) Yes, I am living in a tent for all of you unbeleavers out there... When I open my tent in the moring I see across the bay about 12 miles to a long row of mountain peeks and sevral glaciers. There are far too many tourists in this town. Like I told my parents yesterday, if i toss a rock in any direction I'll prolby hit 5 tourists. Well... maybe not quite that many, but it seams that way. And they CAN NOT DRIVE!!! grr... right of way? huh? what is that?

After my half a day of job searching I took the jeep down to the beach and drove about 5 miles down to where nobody was and took some pictures and started to do some drawing of the moutans across the bay... but I realized that I didnt have a pencil. So I sat around and looked at the bay. The sun was shining off the little ripples in the water. It was really beautiful. When I first got there there were two little rocks out a bit into the water that had gulls on them... But after being there for an hour or so I realized that there was now only one rock with one gull on it... it took me a bit to realize that the tide was coming in and I had better get off the beach or I would have to see how well the Jeep worked as a boat... that was fun, splash spash. anyhow then I was here, typing this.. well, not just after I noticed the disapearing rock... but as soon as I got off the beach I came here.
And as too ur question of how Tiff is doing Amanda... She is doing fine, she was really really glad to see me :) she was jumping up and down at the airport when I came in, then she attacked me, lol. sorta. She was realy bored because my plane was 2 hours late. So she read all the little booklets in the airport she could get her hands on.
Well, thats my 2nd day. The weather is sunny and warm ;P... well by warm I mean 65. Which is nice.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am now in Alaska!! and no... its not that cold.
